Precision skills truly matter here – witness intense racing action as drivers attempt to outmanoeuvre each other for the best position at Sheares (Turn 1) after decelerating from speeds of over 290km/h from the Pit Straight.
In 2017, a spectacular collision right after the start line took out Max Verstappen’s Red Bull and Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen immediately, while Ferrari’s Sebastien Vettel spun out seconds later. Fernando Alonso’s McLaren was also damaged in the accident, forcing him to retire.
