Jamie Chadwick storms in during closing stages to top practice in Singapore

30 September 2022, Singapore – A final push from British racing driver Jamie Chadwick saw her top the timesheets in W Series’ 30-minute practice session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit ahead of Sunday’s race, where all she needs is a win to claim a third-straight title.

Chadwick won five-straight races to start the 2022 season, setting up her title defence, before Alice Powell ended that golden run at the last race in Hungary. But, the 24-year-old snatched back control at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, with her fastest time of 2:13.529 more than half a second up on second-placed rival Abbi Pulling and three-quarters up on Powell in third.

Chadwick, who is affiliated with F1 team Williams, left no stone unturned in her Singapore preparations, which went well beyond a summer holiday trip to check out the 23-turn track that is one of the toughest on the calendar.

“The track surface is basically [made up of main roads which are used daily, so it's constantly changing which makes it hard to prepare for,” Chadwick said.

“I've spent some time learning the circuit on the simulator at Williams, but it's tricky because there are lots of corners.”

It was a difficult session to gain crucial Marina Bay experience though, with red flag stoppages for stopped cars out on track, including Emma Kimilainen, Chloe Chambers, and Abbie Eaton, all of which ensured that there was a flurry of laps and action in between.
