One of several prime overtaking opportunities on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, cars brake heavily down to 127km/h while entering the apex at Turn 7, then accelerate full-throttle towards Turn 8.

In 2017, a lapse in concentration saw Daniil Kvyat plant his Toro Rosso into the barrier. In 2022, Lewis Hamilton misjudged his braking point and drove his Mercedes straight on into the barriers at Turn 7 in lap 33 of the race. Later on, Max Verstappen attempted a pass on Lando Norris’s McLaren, but the Dutchman locked up his Red Bull and spun into the escape road at Turn 7.

Over at Turn 8, Alexander Albon on Lap 25 understeered and slid his Williams into the barrier at Turn 8 and damaging his front wing resulting in an early retirement. Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen overtook the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton to climb up to P8, just as the Briton unsuccessfully attempted to overtake the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel at the same corner.
