30 September 2022, Singapore – Kantasak Kusiri has become the first driver in TSS The Super Series to set pole position at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where the Thai racer dominated with the fastest time in both practice and qualifying in his Mercedes Benz AMG GT3. TSS The Super Series is racing for the first time in the Republic as a support race of the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022.
Kusiri, racing for the YK Motorsports Billionaire Boy by Sunoco team, cruised to pole position by almost 1.4 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, second-placed Darryl O’Young in another Mercedes Benz AMG run by Craft-Bamboo Racing. Yasser Shahin closed out the top-three for the grid in his Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute-run Audi R8 GT3 Evo II. All three are in the GT3 class.
Thai driver Tanart Sathienthirakul topped the GTM class, to take sixth outright, with his 2:19.100, over 4.7 seconds behind the leader. He was also one of seven drivers to complete 10 laps, the highest tally for the session.
Drivers throughout the field had to scramble for banker laps, after the red flag came out five minutes into qualifying given GTC racer Charun Kietbumrungkul lost control of his Full Function team-run McLaren 570S FT4. The Thai driver stopped on-track, but brought his car back to the pit lane without setting a lap time in this crucial session that has set the grid for tomorrow’s first race.
The class-leading driver in GTC, however, was French pilot Romain Stephane Pierre Leroux, racing a Viper Niza Racing team Aston Martin Vantage GT4. He finished 13th overall, behind GT3 driver Yin Yu Chen from Chinese Taipei who was behind the wheel of the First-Team AAI-run BMW M6 GT3.
