Boosted and ready to roar: Two new support races revs up the high-octane weekend

27 July 2022, Singapore – Petrolheads can look forward to brand new support races on the Marina Bay Street Circuit when the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022 returns this 30th September to 2nd October. In addition to the Formula 1 action, the Marina Bay Street Circuit will also play host to support races making their exciting debut in Singapore – all-female single-seater racing championship W Series, and one of Asia’s most competitive GT Series, the TSS The Super Series.

New for this year, Formula 1 fans can catch their favourite drivers in a special F1 Meet & Greet session on Saturday, 1 October. For the first time ticket holders can see their favourite racers up close at the Zone 1 Wharf Stage.

Making their exciting debut on the Marina Bay Street Circuit as well as their first race in Asia is the all-female international single-seater motor racing championship, W Series. Singapore will host the seventh round of the 2022 season, which is currently led by reigning double champion, Jamie Chadwick of Jenner Racing. The 24-year-old Briton has won the first five races of W Series’ record 10-race 2022 campaign. Refer to ANNEX A for more details on W Series.

Catherine Bond Muir, Chief Executive Officer of W Series said: “Our 2022 season promised to be a landmark one as we staged more races (10) in a single season that ever before, including a first-ever race in Asia, which is a key market for us. The Marina Bay Street Circuit has built a fantastic reputation for great racing and we’re sure the atmosphere will be incredible as racing returns there after a break. We staged our first-ever race on a street circuit in Miami in May to great acclaim, and I’m sure our drivers will put on another exciting show at Marina Bay and continue to inspire new fans of W Series in Asia.”

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, TSS The Super Series is the biggest domestic racing series in Thailand and is also inscribed by the FIA. The series, which is racing in Singapore for the first time, features an exciting mix of GT3/ GTM and GTC supercars. Spectators can expect to see the likes of Toyota, Lexus, Audi, Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes AMG, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ford Mustang on the streets of the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Singapore will host two invitational races, which features 27 drivers from all over the world, including Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands, Australia, USA, New Zealand, France, Hong Kong SAR, Canada, and Malaysia. Refer to ANNEX B for more details on TSS The Super Series.

“We are thrilled that Singapore will be the first in Asia to host the W Series, as we get back on track after a two-year hiatus. W Series is leading the way in promoting diversity and gender equality in motorsports. We are proud to partner them by offering a platform for an all-female line-up of elite racers to compete at the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2022. TSS The Super Series will also be a treat for motorsport fans as their superb line-up of GT supercars make their debut at the Marina Bay Street Circuit,” said Colin Syn, Deputy Chairman, Singapore GP Pte Ltd.
