Nasr in Singapore:
2015 Sauber: qualified 16th, finished 10th
Brazilian Felipe Nasr signed for Sauber in 2015 after a season as Williams’ test and reserve driver. It’s no secret that Nasr brings with him significant funding which no doubt helped secure the seat, but he did also impress in the lower formulae.
In 2014, which was his third season in GP2, he won four races and scored 10 podiums, finishing third overall in the championship. His single-seater career started back in 2008 when he scored a podium on debut in the Formula BMW Americas championship. A year later, he won five races and took 14 podiums on his way to the Formula BMW Europe title.
A switch to British F3 followed and four podiums contributed to fourth place in the driver’s standings as he built up his experience. Next time around, he clinched the title, winning seven times and taking 15 podiums.
Nasr made a bright impression on his Formula One debut as he finished fifth in the Australian Grand Prix, the best ever first result for a Brazilian driver. He went on to score 27 points in 2015 and continues with Sauber for another year in 2016.
