Magnussen in Singapore:
2014 McLaren: qualified 9th, finished 10th
2015 did not enter
2016 Renault: qualified 17th, finished 16th
Kevin Magnussen is no stranger to a Formula One car as he raced for McLaren in 2014. But despite him scoring a podium on his debut at the Australian Grand Prix, the British team opted to sign Fernando Alonso for 2015 and demoted him to reserve driver. He was released towards the end of the year.
Although Magnussen did substitute for Alonso at the first Grand Prix of 2015, he did not make it to the grid as his car broke down before the start of the race. His Renault deal was only announced at the last minute, when the team dropped Pastor Maldonado in January 2016.
Magnussen won races throughout his junior single seater career, which culminated with the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2013 before his promotion to Formula One with McLaren.
The Dane will be looking to make the most of a rare second-chance at the pinnacle of motorsport.
