A star of the future
Daniel Ricciardo was one of the drivers of the season in 2014, as the Australian was the only non-Mercedes driver to win a race all year. He repeated that feat on three occasions but Red Bull’s engine dramas meant he could did not win again in 2015, where he was beaten in the points by teammate Daniil Kvyat.
The Australian driver will be looking to bounce back in 2016, which will be his third year driving for the main Red Bull team.
Back in 2014, Ricciardo, who had raced for HRT and spent two seasons with Toro Rosso, made the most of his opportunity with the then reigning world championship team, absorbing the pressure to outperform his more decorated teammate Sebastian Vettel.
The Australian always has a smile on his face and his happy-go-lucky persona with a penchant for music and tennis disguises a determined and clever racer. He has pulled of a string of impressive overtaking moves in the last two seasons, including a brilliant one at the Hungaroring in 2014 on Lewis Hamilton, who was in a superior car.
Ricciardo, from Perth in Western Australia, has impressed many with his honesty and reluctance to make excuses but will face a challenge to reassert himself as Red Bull’s leader following Kvyat’s performance in 2015. Although Red Bull is expecting 2016 to be tough, anticipate the young Australian looking to seize every opportunity.
